Empowering people to live a thriving, productive life.

A holistic program for independent living.

Who We Are

We want every person in Washington County to have the opportunity and resources to live independently. That sounds simple, but the needs are great and they are complex! There are over 7,000 adults living under the poverty limit and almost 6,000 living with severe housing problems. Affordable housing is just the beginning.

Our mission is to rebuild lives with a holistic approach, providing resources for independent living. We provide help with housing, mental health, addiction recovery, work, finances and life skills that open the door to a thriving, productive life.

Cottages at 6th Street

We exist because home matters. We began with actual houses, focusing on quality and stability to give people a place to start. For homes and families to thrive, they need the protective comfort of community, and that’s what the staff, volunteers, and donors to Nehemiah are focused on creating – a strong and vibrant community that can sustain generations of families.

Nehemiah Houses

The road to independent living starts with housing. Our group homes aren’t just a housing solution. We provide a holistic program of surrounding services that address the underlying causes of the client’s housing instability. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to help people overcome the obstacles to independent living.

Room at the Inn

Coming in 2026, we will be renovating the former Emerald Inn into a 140-bed transitional living program. We will take the same principles from our Nehemiah House program and multiply it to reach more people!
